Stall force
Stall force is the resistance, in pounds, at which a massage gun's motor can no longer keep moving its arm through a full stroke and stops. It is the spec that answers what actually happens under real hand pressure, unlike amplitude and RPM, which are both measured with the device running unloaded. Many brands do not publish a stall-force figure at all, and among those that do, published numbers range from around 30 lbs (Theragun Prime) to 80 lbs (Achedaway Pro, TimTam All-New PowerMassager) across the models in our Stall Force Reality Index. Amplitude and RPM
Amplitude is the stroke's linear travel distance in millimeters; RPM (or PPM) is how many of those strokes happen per minute. Across popular models, amplitude ranges from 7mm (Bob and Brad Q2 Mini, a compact device) up to 18mm (TimTam All-New PowerMassager), while RPM ranges typically run from about 1750 up to 3200 across five speed settings. Neither spec alone predicts real-world feel — a long amplitude at moderate RPM produces deep, slower strokes; a short amplitude at high RPM produces rapid, shallow vibration. Non-disclosure is common — and itself a finding
Several widely sold massage guns simply do not publish a stall-force figure, a full RPM range, a weight, or a battery-life figure anywhere on the manufacturer's own page. This is not a research gap we filled with an estimate — every "not disclosed" cell in our dataset reflects an actual absence of a public spec from that brand at the time of research. Manufacturer claim vs third-party measurement
A brand's own published spec is a claim the company chose to state; it has not necessarily been independently verified. A figure from a third-party publication that physically tested the device (typically pressing it into a load cell or bathroom scale until the motor stalls) is an independent measurement. Our dataset labels every stall-force figure's source_class so the two are never presented as equally reliable.
Weight and battery life
Weight and battery life are the specs buyers notice first in daily use, but they get buried under amplitude/RPM/stall-force marketing. A device that is a pound heavier is meaningfully more fatiguing to hold at arm's length through a full session. Several models in our dataset do not disclose either spec clearly.
